PAKISTAN MOVEMENT IN N.W.F.P

Actual struggle for a separate and independent Muslim state in the sub-continent had commenced after the Pakistan Resolution at Lahore passed in the Muslim League session on 23rd March 1940. But the Pathans struggle for independence was still continue since the independence war of 1857. Although the rebellion was suppressed by the Britishers but go on in the tribal areas of NWFP. Pathans have fought at least 90 wars with British troops between 1857 to 1947 which is a clear proof of their independence struggle. They killed thousands of British troops in these independence wars and offered great scarifies of life and property.

Apart from armed struggle Pathans were also not far behind in political struggle for independence. They took active parts in all political movement commenced in the 20th century for independence of sub-continent launched rule. When the Muslims of the sub-continent launched Hijrat Movement, they were on the front of it.

The quantity of Pathans migrator was far exceed than the migrator of other parts of India. It would not be out of place if we say that the Pathans are the originators of ideology of Pakistan. The idea of a separate Muslims state was first presented by Sardar Gul Muhammad Khan in 1924 at Dera Ismail Khan. Sardar Gul Muhammad Khan explained in his statement to Frontier Inquiry Committee (Bray Commission) that the unity of Hindu-Muslims is impossible. Therefore separate independent states may be given to both the communities. In the south from Ras Kumary to Agra where Hindus are in majority be formed the Hindu state, while in the north from Agra to Peshawar where Muslims are in majority be formed the Muslims state. Again When Chaudhry Rahmat Ali Cambridge pointed out the ideology of Pakistan in a booklet "Now or Never" the signature of a brave son of Pathan Khan Muhammad Aslam Khan Khattak was fixed on it. In 1930, when the ideology of Pakistan was practically presented by Allama Muhammad Iqbal in an annual session of Muslims League at Allahabad, the frontier Muslims wholeheartedly supported the idea and continued their struggle to achieve the goal. The year had proved much bloody for the Muslims of NWFP because the British troops opened fire on the Muslims gathering in connection of independence movement at Qissa Khwani and Kalan Bazaar Peshawar, Takkar Hathi Khel, Spin Tangi etc and martyred about 300 Pathans. Since 1930 onward the independence struggle of frontier Muslims raised and the situation for the British in NWFP become hotter to hottest.

The Muslims of NWFP welcomed the Pakistan Resolution passed on 23rd March 1940, in the historical session of Muslims League at Lahore. In this session the guard of volunteers of NWFP performed the protection responsibility of the founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The province was represented in the session by Sardar Aurangzeb Khan, Bahadur Saadullah Khan, Mian Zia ud Din, Abdul Wahid Khan, Bakht Jamal Khan, Maulvi Shad Muhammad Khan, Mian Mauwin-ud-Din Pir Zakori Sharif, Taj Muhammad Khan, Begum Zari Sarfaraz etc. The Resolution of Pakistan have been hailed and protected in NWFP Besides the other people of country, the Muslims of NWFP also determined the resolution as their final goal. In his speech to the session Sardar Aurangzeb Khan of NWFP said in high tone that ' I Strongly protected the resolution presented by the tiger of Bengal Maulvi Fazal Haq. Every word of resolution is interpreting our hearts. I congratulate heartily those brave Muslims who are residing in the Hindus majority province but openly supported the resolution. We the Muslims of NWFP give them assurance for protection of their lives and properties up to the last drops of out blood.

After the Pakistan resolution Muslims League raised in the province. The Muslims Students established many unions. Muslims League branches have opened in all big cities and towns. The Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah visit NWFP on 19th November 1945 further strengthened the hold of Muslims League in the province Although the Congress succeeded in establishment of Congress ministry in NWFP, but the out put on Muslims League was far superior in the election of 1945-45. The Muslims League won all the 30 Muslims seats of NWFP in the central assembly and 17 out of 38 Muslims seats of the provincial assembly.

The Nehru Visit of NWFP on 10th October 1946 was completely condemned by the Pathans. When he came out of the plane an irritated crowed raised opposite voice "GO BACK NEHRU, GO BACK NEHRU" and some of them also tried on attack his car. He was welcomed every-where at Peshawar with black flags. On 17th October 1946, when he left Peshawar for Malakand he was much disgraced there. The people of Malakand welcomed him with stones throw and did not allow his entry to the area. In this tour he received injury on forehead. The people of Miranshah and Razmak also entertained him with the same treatment. The Tribal Jirgas even refused to listen him. On 21st February 1947 the people of NWFP launched a Disobedient Movement against the Congress rule in which four of Five Pathans sacrificed their lives.

The people of NWFP proved the assurance of Sardar Aurangzeb Khan word by word which he given to the Muslims of Hindu majority province at the time of Muslims League session at Lahore on 23rd March 1940. When the first war of Kashmir opened in 1947-48, Pathans guerrillas and volunteers at once rushed to the battlefield to help their Kashmiri brothers and release them from Dogra rule. They knocked the doors of Sarinagar and occupied half of the Kashmir territory. Today we see Azad Kashmir on the map on account of Pathans bravery

  1. please correct the figures 1957,instead of 1857. Apart from this most of the pukhtoon writers mentioned on a side who has popular known and given a sacrifice for Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa, while one well known personality and a popular poet and a very prominent personality who did alots fr KPK and now he has passed away Dr.Sahib Shah Sabir didn,t mentioned in that list.
If any reason please tell us, is this a justice with his soul?
